The Breastplate

A poem of faith by St. Patrick

“Christ be within me, Christ behind me, Christ before me, Christ beside me, Christ to win me, Christ to comfort and

restore me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ in quiet, Christ in danger, Christ in hearts of all that love me, Christ in mouth of friend and stranger.”

III. The Fifth Sunday & Vincent de Paul: as you know, we have parish volunteers who meet face to face with the needy of the area every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9:00–12:00 in the parish office. This essential ministry (cf Matthew 25ff) is possible only because of your generous donations on the fifth Sunday of every month (many also give online through WeShare any time). Our next fifth Sunday is March 31!

Many thanks to those involved in this ministry: Linda Beam, Harry Bellew (SSC Conference President), Peggy Bellew (SSC Pastoral Council Social Concerns liaison), Robert Berry, D. J. Clark (SSC Conference Treasurer), Bill Goetz, John Hein, Larry Lyon, Bob Mahoney, Jesse & Nora Mattingly, Mary Ann Medley, Judy Osborne, Amy Payne, Denise Payne (SSC Conference Secretary), Marianna Robinson, Gene Schadler, Florence Weider, and Bill & Shannon Wright. Do you feel a call to help with this ministry?

IV.  Easter Joy is On The Way! Our volunteers are vital to ensuring the reverence and beauty of our Holy Week and Easter liturgies. If you serve in a liturgical ministry, please check the online schedule and sign up to serve (or call the Parish Office). Your participation is needed and appreciated! May your Lenten observance lead to Easter Joy!

V.  Bless Your Children: One of the family traditions I admired while in India is the ancient custom of parents blessing their children before they go to bed. Actually, I observed families praying together before the evening meal (if you don’t pray, you don’t eat) which tended to be later than our traditional evening meal. After rather lengthy praying (the rosary, litany, Scripture reading, remembering living and deceased loved ones),  every child, including adult children, would present themselves to both the mother and father, for a blessing; the parents simply place their hands on their the heads of their children with a simple words of God blessing them.  “You may not be rich; you may be unable to bequeath any great possessions to your children; but one thing you can give them—the inheritance of your blessing. And it is better to be blessed than to be rich.”

Saint Ambrose   (India, Chapter IV)
