Pastor’s Corner

I. It is The Thief who recognized in Christ the Lord and Messiah!  Today our liturgical season culminates in the Solemnity of our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe, established by Pope Pius XI in 1925. Conventional understanding of kingship and power are transformed. Rather than calling up images of Jesus Christ dressed in kingly robes, the Gospel proclaims Jesus as King by the sign over his head on the throne of a wooden cross (INRI-Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum)! Jesus’ throne is the cross; His crown is not gold and jewels, but composed of thorns; the lance that pierces His side is His scepter.

II. Living Our Thanks: This week is our holiday of Thanksgiving! Why not give public thanks by participating in our 8:00am Mass (the only Mass this Thursday). The Stewardship Way of Life is a total life response of the Christian who has been touched by God’s love. We can decide whether or not to accept or reject Christ, but once we accept Him, stewardship is no longer optional. We have become stewards of God’s gifts which he has given us freely.

  • Stewardship is Thanksgiving.
  • Stewardship is sharing.
  • Stewardship is all of us doing our share to fulfill God’s mission and stewardship will lead us to heaven.

If you have not done so, I request that you return your Stewardship Pledge Form this week or bring to our 8:00am Thanksgiving Day Mass. Friday, we will have a regular schedule of Masses at 7:00AM and 12:05PM.

III. Mike Conley, a couple weeks ago, had a stroke which effected his cognitive abilities; he is presently at a rehabilitation facility. I ask for your prayers for Mike; if you would like to send a card or note, his address is as follows:

IV. “At Home With the Word” will be given to each household/family to use in preparation for our Sunday liturgies. I make a promise to you: if you read and reflect upon the Sunday readings before you come to the weekend Mass, you will hear the readings differently and listen to the homily more attentively. Receive this gift well!

“Seeds of discouragement cannot take root in a grateful heart.”
