Pastor’s Corner

All Saints Day, Guidelines for True Joy: remembering all the saints known and unknown to us who enjoy the glory of heaven, we celebrate All Saints Day. In today’s Gospel, we hear the Beatitudes, which are guidelines for true joy and the attainment of sanctity and our Christian lives. We hear how to live lives of holiness so that we may attain happiness in this life, but even more happiness in the next life as we strive to likewise be numbered among all the saints in heaven. Our Mass schedule: Monday, October 31 (All Saints Eve)-6:00pm; Tuesday, November 1-7:00am, 12:05 noon. Blessed Sacrament Chapel (7th & Sycamore)-6:00pm.

All Souls Day (November 2): Praying for the dead reaches deep into our human history, and it has been our custom from the earliest days of the Church. While many people visit a cemetery on All Souls Day, I invite you to celebrate Eucharist at 7:00am or 12:05 noon.

Remembering Our Loved Ones: There will be a special Vespers Service on Wednesday, All Souls Day at 6:00pm, followed by a reception. While everyone is invited, we especially invite those who have lost loved ones this past year. So that we might plan more effectively, please are RSVP to the parish office if you plan to attend Vespers and the reception. Everyone is invited! May they rest in peace.

Special Opportunity for Praying on Election Day: what better time to pray for our country and our democratic process for electing a president for the next four years, than on Election Day, Tuesday, November 8. Saint Stephen Cathedral will offer the opportunity for personal and public prayer beginning after the 12:05 (noon) Mass and ending at 6:00pm, poll closing in Daviess County. To assure that at least two (2) people are present for Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, there are “Sign Up” sheets at our church doors. Take time to be formed by www.faithfulcitizenship.org.
