I. Diocesan Mother Church Prays for Each Parish on Feast Day: Thanks to the initiative of the Marketing/Communications Committee, we are now praying for the people in parishes around the Diocese on the Sunday before their Feast Day. Furthermore, a letter is sent, thanks to Alex and Karen Howard, to the parish two weeks prior to the Feast day informing them that the people of St. Stephen Cathedral, as the Mother Church of the Diocese, will be praying for them at all our weekend Masses. Recently, I received a thank you note from Fr. Darrell Venters on behalf of the people of Saint Jerome Church, Fancy Farm. (The Feast of St. Jerome was September 30.)

II. Mandeville Mission Trip: Just this morning, ten of us left from Louisville on our way to one of the poorest dioceses in the Western Hemisphere. I ask your prayers, especially this week, for the people of the Diocese of Mandeville in Central Jamaica, and for us: Janet and John Colghan, Deacon Dirck Curry, Donna and Jim Duffy, Mark Heinz, Laurie Hicks, Donna and Richard Murphy, and me.

III. Reserve The Date: November 9-11. St. Stephen Cathedral will join Sts. Joseph and Paul and Blessed Mother Parishes in a Tri-Parish Mission led by Fr. Ron Knott of Louisville. The Cathedral will be host Tuesday, November 10. Plan on participating all three evenings!

IV. Ministry Scheduler Pro is a computer program we have just purchased for SSC to schedule parishioners for liturgical ministries. If you have signed up for a particular liturgical ministry, and have not been trained or scheduled, please send an email to Michael Bogdan, at [email protected] Mike is entering the data into the new computer program. Thank you for helping the parish in this important matter.

V. Thank you: Recently, I received a thank you card from Fr. Titus Ahabyona from Our Lady of the Snows Cathedral in Fort Portal, Uganda, asking me to pass gratitude on to you. “Convey my heartfelt thanks and appreciation to all the parishioners of Saint Stephen Cathedral for their love and contributions toward our Cathedral renovation. We are currently doing repairs; the painting is finished and we are now on the roof doing repairs. May God bless them.”

VI. Sophia Award: Last Sunday, the Sophia Award from our parish was bestowed on Miss Mary Hilda McFarland, fondly remembered as “Miss Mac.” We are grateful for her life of faith!

In Joy and Hope,
Fr. Jerry
