I. Mandeville Mission Trip: For the past 25 years, the Diocese of Owensboro has partnered/sistered with the Diocese of Mandeville in Jamaica, one of the poorest dioceses in the Western Hemisphere. St. Stephen Cathedral will sponsor a Mission Trip there October 11–18. Please pray for God’s blessing on this outreach, and for those going: Deacon Dirck Curry, Donna and Jim Duffy, Mark Heinz, Laurie Hicks, Donna and Richard Murphy, Janet and John Colgan, and Fr. Jerry Riney.
II. Beautiful Picnic Day! There was a 70% chance of no rain, and no rain is what happened! We were blessed with a most beautiful day! Thanks to Deacon Dirck Curry and the Picnic Committee, who certainly made a huge difference in this community building event, as well as adding much needed monies to our operating budget. I had several people tell me that the burgoo this year was the best ever! Thank you, Glenn Thompson and your capable crew! As you are aware, it will take several weeks for all the bills to come in, and for us to get a handle on the net profit! Regardless of the bottom line, the picnic was a huge success in the number of people who helped, worked, and cleaned up, all for the good of our community.
III. A Spiritual Opportunity for Men: Last Thursday, I had the opportunity to attend a session of That Man Is You. It was heartening to see almost 50 men present. We had a coffee and pastry/fruit at 6:00AM and were out at 7:30AM sharp! I’m looking forward to this Thursday morning. Each session is complete within itself. You are invited! See you Thursday!
IV. Give Generously to the Disciples’ Response Fund: As you know, we are a pilot parish for testing a new way to increase support of the Disciples’ Response Fund and to assist our parish by helping to pay a portion of our assessment to the Diocese once we have reached our target. I encourage each of you to support the important work of our Diocese. There are many things that even large parishes cannot do on their own. For example, the Disciples Response Fund puts money into an endowment for the care of retired priests. The fund also assists with the expenses for the education of our seminarians. If you received a letter from Bishop Medley asking for your support of the DRF, please make a generous gift today. Thank you!
In Joy and Hope,
