I. Basilio Az Cuc, during this his third year at St. Meinrad School of Theology, has been here at St. Stephen Cathedral most every Wednesday, 4:00-8:00pm, in addition to being here one weekend a month. The Diocese of Owensboro announces the ordination of Basilio Az Cuc to the Order of Diaconate through the invocation of the Holy Spirit and the imposition of hands. You are invited to this ordination on Saturday, April 18, at 10:00am at St. Stephen Cathedral. (There will be no 9:00am Mass on this day; come to the ordination.)

II. Jubilee Year of Mercy! Calling on the global Roman Catholic Church to take up his central message of compassion, Pope Francis has announced that he is convoking a Jubilee Year to be called the “Holy Year of Mercy.” Since 1300, the Catholic Church has called a Jubilee Year every 25 or 50 years. This Jubilee Year of Mercy begins December 8, 2015 and concludes with the Feast of Christ the King, November 20, 2016.

III. Easter Joy and Gratitude! The Triduum and Easter services were wonderful celebrations. Thanks to the Art and Environment Committee (Kathy Rasp, Patrick Clary, Mary Ann O’Bryan, Sr. Sharon Miller, Mary Horn) for transforming our church from the season of Lent to the Easter season. We extend gratitude to our music ministers, Eucharistic Ministers, servers, lectors, ushers and hospitality ministers: all under the direction of Michael Conley, Director of Liturgy and Music. Gratitude to the helpers of Amy Payne, who coordinated the post-Easter vigil reception. Many, many others contributed in big and small ways to make things work for the good of our community. Thank you!

IV. Automated Giving: A good way to be consistent and put the Lord first is to set up your tithe as an automatic transfer of funds (ATF). I started this several years ago and I love it, because it puts the Lord first and I do not have to wonder if I have written the check.  In addition, it honors my obligation to the church when I am on vacation. Think about it. Talk about it. Pray about it.

V. VOCARE 2015: Reserve Friday, September 18, at 5:00pm at the Owensboro Convention Center. VOCARE (Latin for To Call) is an event to celebrate vocations to priesthood and religious life in our Diocese of Owensboro. Yes, this falls on the eve of our SSC Festival!

In Joy and Hope,

Fr. Jerry
