I. Mount St. Joseph Picnic! This annual picnic to benefit the retired Ursuline Sisters is today, September 14, from 11:00am-2:00pm. For many years, the Ursuline Sisters worked in our schools and parishes for one dollar a day; now that the median age of the Ursulines of Mount St. Joseph is 76 years, the communities in which they served generously must help the sisters in their retirement. Thanks to all those who made cakes for the Mount picnic, and a special thanks to Mark and Martha Sims who coordinated this event for our St. Stephen Cathedral Parish.

II. Disciples Response Fund: Every registered family should have received a letter in the mail from Bishop Medley regarding this annual campaign to offset operating expenses for the diocese. It also helps to lower our parish assessment. I want you to be aware that 10% of the money received is given back to the parishes in forms of grants. St. Stephen Cathedral just received $2,300 for a built-in AV and screen for the Community Center. Be as generous as you can be to this annual collection, especially if you have not participated in the past!

III. You Are Needed! Our Parish Festival is this Saturday, September 20, 2:00-6:00pm. Please note that the regularly scheduled Saturday evening 5:00pm Mass will be delayed until 7:00pm for our picnic workers and all. This picnic is important, not just financially, but also in building community. Let’s all pitch in to make this the best festival ever! It really does take all of us working together for this common goal.

IV. Director of Buildings and Grounds, Patrick Clary, has resigned his position on our staff. I want to thank Patrick for his good work and for using his talents and gifts for our parish, even beyond the buildings and grounds job description. Patrick’s last day at work was Friday, September 5. Patrick has committed to helping us in this transition time, without pay, until we can find the right person for this position. In the meantime, we will need parishioners to “step up to the plate” to fill in the gaps. If you can help, call our parish office, 270-683-6525.

Joy and Hope,

Fr. Jerry
