When the time for Pentecost was fulfilled, they were all in one place together.
And suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong driving wind,
and it filled the entire house in which they were.
Then there appeared to them as tongues of fire,
which parted and came to rest on each one of them.
and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit
and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim.
Acts 2:1-2

Wear something red to witness to the Holy Spirit’s presence in your life.
Share some food with your fellow Christians, including those newly initiated into the Church this year.
Celebrate the descent of the Holy Spirit on the disciples, often called the “birthday of the Church,” and enjoy some birthday cake.
Sign a letter which supports immigration reform that respects the dignity of the human person.

Be not lax in celebrating.
Be not lazy in the festive service of God.
Be ablaze with enthusiasm.
Let us be an alive, burning offering
Before the altar of God!
(St. Hildegarde of Bingen)

I. Welcome to Bishop Medley who claims his Mother Church to confirm our young eager teens. The Sacrament of Confirmation “fans into a flame” the gifts of the Spirit received at Baptism. I had the pleasure of interviewing our confirmandi and was impressed with their quality of faith and their ability to express what Confirmation means to them. Congratulations to these candidates and their families! Thanks to Donna Murphy, Director of Faith Formation, for her oversight of our Confirmation process in working with these Confirmation families.

II. Good Financial News! The Cathedral’s Fair Share of the Diocesan Campaign, “Responding to Today’s Needs and Tomorrow’s Vision” was $437,784; our parishioners have contributed $67,277 of this amount. On May 29, we received a check for $476,463 from the Diocesan Capital Campaign. That same day, under the advisement of our SSC Finance Committee, we wrote the Diocese a check for $370,507 to completely pay off our Fair Share for the Diocesan Capital Campaign. The rest of the money, $105,956, was used to decrease the principal on our Renewal and Restoration debt. Thanks to all of you who have been so generous in helping us to whittle away at our beautiful Cathedral debt! It takes all of us! No gift is too little or too big!

Joy and Hope,
Fr. Jerry
