Pastor’s Perspective

Published on December 28th, 2012

Dear Parishioners,

Merry Christmas again, and may God bless you on this feast of the Holy Family.  I pray that these are truly days of blessing for your family. I am grateful that I was able to spend a couple of days with my mother and siblings in Paducah after Christmas.  I am so grateful that Mother has made good progress since she suffered the stroke back in the summer. She is still rather limited in what she can do but is so much better than she was.

I am truly sad to say good-bye to Sr. Therese Francis who assumes her new position in Alabama this week.  Sister has been a genuine blessing to our staff and to our parish in the years that she has served us as the Director of Faith Formation.  Her own faith and her gentle leadership have helped many of us to grow in the understanding and appreciation of our faith.  Thank you, Sister Therese, and know of our prayers for you as you make this transition.  You are always welcome here and we hope that you will find opportunities to come to visit us.

We welcome Fr. Joe Mills back to St. Stephen this week-end.  I am in Covington for the Saturday evening wedding of Pete Jones, our former altar server and Eucharistic Minister, the son of Laurie Hicks.  Be sure and let Fr. Joe know that he is “amazing.”

Happy New Year!  Don’t forget that Tuesday is a holy day of Obligation, the Solemnity of the Motherhood of Mary.  The Mass schedule is listed elsewhere in the bulletin.  Have a blessed week.

Love, Fr. John
