Pastor’s Perspective

Dear Parishioners,

As I write this, the materials from Spain are on the MSC Eugenia sailing toward Norfolk, Va. They were scheduled to arrive there over this weekend.  From there, they come by truck and are supposed to be here by the 29th.  I have been informed that the team from Madrid will be here to begin installation as soon as the artifacts arrive.  We are nearing the end, but there is still much work to be done before the dedication on November 18th.

Those of you who are currently serving as Ushers/Ministers of Hospitality recently received a letter from our Disaster Preparation Committee inviting you to a meeting on November 10th.  As we prepare to move back into the Church, this will be a very important meeting.  In the case of an emergency while we are gathered for Mass or other services, it will be essential that numerous people are prepared to assist the community.  Please attend this meeting.  This gives me an opportunity to invite others in the parish to join the ranks of ushers.  We need others to serve in this important ministry.  Ordinarily, it does not require any “heavy lifting” but only a commitment to serve when scheduled, a friendly face, and a willingness to offer a cordial greeting to those who gather to worship with us.  Please, we need you.

Once again, I am away for most of this week, but I think this will be my last extended trip until after the first of the year.  I am flying to Winnipeg, Manitoba on Sunday to attend the annual conference of the Canon Law Society of Canada.  A number of our northern neighbors were at the US meeting in Chicago last week.  As always, you are in my prayers while I am away.  I count on yours.

Love, Fr. John
