Pastor’s Perspective

Published on September 14th, 2012

Dear Parishioners,

It is good to be home!  My trip to New Zealand was beautiful, but there is no place like home.  And,  how wonderful it is to have returned home in time for the picnic.  So many parishioners have been preparing for the picnic for many months now.  Thanks to Garry and Ann Pierce for leading the effort, and to Larry Lyon who has worked tirelessly to coordinate the raffle.  So many others need to be mentioned and they will be in time.

Saturday was an historical day in the Diocese of Owensboro when eighteen permanent deacons were ordained for service to the people of God in western Kentucky.  These men have been in formation for more than five years.  I am not certain, but I presume that Bishop Medley will assign each of them to his home parish.  Now that they are ordained, another group has begun an aspirancy program, which will lead some of them to diaconate ordination in about five years.  Our parishioner, Dick Murphy, is in this group.  Dick, accompanied by his wife, Donna, met with our Parish Pastoral Council in June.  The Council offered Dick and his family encouragement, support and prayers as he begins this process.

Don’t forget to pray for Sam Rasp who is still in the early days of seminary formation in Indianapolis.

Love, Fr. John
