Pastor’s Perspective

Published on July 27th, 2012

Dear Parishioners,

The work in the Church has been progressing slowly in the last month.  The painting is about completed as they finish in the choir loft.  They have almost finished laying the marble in the sanctuary and Blessed Sacrament Chapel.  That has been a slow process because so many individual pieces had to be cut.  Once they complete the sanctuary and the steps, the work in the aisles of the Church should progress more quickly.  There is no reason to think that the Church will not be ready when the articles from Granda arrive in October.

As the work proceeds upstairs, we have formed a committee to survey the Undercroft and to make recommendations for improvements in that area.  We may not be able to do everything we might like to do there, but certainly we can make some improvements (paint, floor, kitchen updates) in time for the dedication ceremony on November 18th.  The Finance Committee and the Pastoral Council will soon review the recommendations regarding the Undercroft and hopefully the work there will quickly begin.  If you have any thoughts or suggestions, please make them known to me or to a member of the Council.

The Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which started July 20 in many countries, is a time of fasting, prayer and repentance, when Muslims distance themselves from worldly activities in an effort to align their lives more closely with God and his laws.  This is the Muslim version of Lent.  I think we can all learn much from their practice of sacrifice, fasting, charity and prayer which characterize this month.

We are still in need of catechists for Sunday morning Faith Formation.  Please give this your prayerful consideration.

Love, Fr. John
