Pastor’s Perspective

Published on June 1st, 2012

Dear Parishioners,

I want to draw your attention to the Stand Up for Religious Freedom rally that will occur Friday, June 8th.  On that day, people across America will gather in prayer and public witness to oppose the HHS Mandate which restricts religious liberty and which will require religious institutions to act contrary to their religious beliefs.  I trust that you have contacted our elected representatives to express your opposition to this attack on our fundamental rights.  If not, do so immediately, and then plan to join other concerned citizens at Moreland Park at noon Friday.

Next Sunday, is the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of the Lord (Corpus Christi).  Since we are out of the Church this year, we will not observe our annual Forty Hours observance and Corpus Christi procession here at St. Stephen.  Note that this is the feast day for Blessed Sacrament.  There, we will have exposition following the 10:00 a.m. Mass until 3:00 p.m.  At that time, we will have a closing prayer service and procession on the Church grounds, followed by an ice-cream social.  I hope that many of you will join us for that special time of prayer and Eucharistic adoration.

Fr. Brandon will be away this week for some well-deserved vacation.  Relax, Fr. Brandon and try not to worry about us too much while you are away. :-)

Love, Fr. John

The Catholic community of Saint Stephen Cathedral serves to welcome, evangelize and worship in the name of Jesus Christ.
