Pastor’s Perspective

Published on February 24th, 2012

Dear Parishioners,

Chris Warren completed his time as our Business Manager on Friday.  We hate to see Chris go and we remain grateful for his contributions to our staff and to our parish during the time he was on our staff.  We wish him well with his new job.  I have not yet hired anyone to take this position, but am in the process of meeting applicants and scheduling interviews.  I ask you to please keep this intention in your prayers.

All parishioners should have received your Stewardship forms in the mail several weeks ago.  They have been slow to return.  I sincerely ask for your cooperation.  These forms are essential to us as we plan our budget and other programs and activities in the coming year.  As I mentioned at last Sunday’s Masses, pre-registration for Owensboro Catholic Schools begins next Monday, March 5th, and it is necessary that you have a voucher from the parish to  be eligible for a reduced tuition rate.  You will recall that one of the criteria for a voucher is that you have returned a Stewardship form.  Many of our Catholic schools families have not yet done so.  As a reminder, the other requisites are registration in the parish, a financial and ministerial commitment to the parish and regular attendance at Sunday Mass here.  Unfortunately, some families do not meet these criteria and therefore are not eligible for a voucher.

This afternoon is the Rite of Election for those in the RCIA preparing for the sacraments of initiation at Easter.  We have several candidates who will experience the Rite today and will be received into the Church at the Easter Vigil.  Please join me in prayerful support of these men and women as they continue their faith journey.

Love, Fr. John

The Catholic community of Saint Stephen Cathedral serves to welcome, evangelize and worship in the name of Jesus Christ.
