Dear Parishioners,

I am happy to tell you that last Monday Tom Payne and I signed the contract with Talleres De Arte Granda, S.A. (Granda) for them to begin the fabrication of the furnishings for our Cathedral.  This has been a long time in coming.  As I have informed you previously, they have said that it will take approximately thirteen months for them to manufacture, ship, and install the items.  The preparatory work in the church should begin soon.  Therefore, I anticipate that we will have the blessing and dedication about this time next year.  It has taken much work and significant financial commitment by many people to get us to this point.  Now is no time to back off.  You will be hearing from our Finance Committee in the near future, and I ask you to maintain your spirit of sacrifice and generosity.

We must empty the church for the work to begin.  Since we will be getting new pews, we are looking to sell the ones we now use.  If you would like to purchase a pew for $100, just let me know.  We would like to find good homes for them.

I saw many of you on the bridge last Friday (9/30).  Wasn’t it a beautiful day and a wonderful idea?  There was such a sense of joy and community spirit evident there.  I am happy that our city officials are planning to make the bridge walk an annual event.

I am away this week participating in the annual meeting of the Canon Law Society of America.  We are meeting in Jacksonville.  While there, I am taking a few vacation days to visit some friends in the area.  I will return to Owensboro on the 17th.  I welcome Fr. Joe Mills back home and thank him for assisting Fr. Brandon with our week-end liturgies.

Love, Fr. John
