Pastor’s Perspective

Published on January 30th, 2011

Dear Parishioners,

I want to offer a large word of thanks to Linda Ivey who has provided child care for the parish on Sunday mornings (and other occasions) for the past several years.  Linda brought competency and much experience to this position, and our children and their parents have been fortunate to benefit from her ministry.  Linda is no longer in this position, but we remain grateful for her kindness and expertise.  Thanks, too, to Cheri Roach who has been assisting Linda during this time.  Child care is still available during the 9:00am Mass.  It is being provided by several students from Brescia University.

This is Catholic Schools Week—an annual opportunity for us to celebrate the wonderful things that are happening in our schools. The theme this year is “Catholic Schools: A+ for America.”  The theme celebrates the fact that Catholic schools are an added value (“a plus”) for the nation.  Because of their traditionally high academic standards and high graduation rates, all supported by strong moral values, Catholic schools and their graduates make a positive contribution to American society.  Catholic Schools Week celebrates education that goes beyond preparation for a secular life ─ it is education that prepares students for a Christian life.  Among the various special celebrations planned this week are our annual blessings of students and families in our Cathedral Preschool and Mass with Bishop Medley at the Sportscenter for all students in the Owensboro Catholic Schools.

Last week, we sent all parishioners their annual financial statement.  I want to thank all of you for your contributions to the parish, and especially those who make a pledge and earnestly strive to fulfill your commitment.  If you note any errors on your statement, please let us know and we will be happy to rectify the report.  We apologize for any inaccuracies.

Love, Fr. John
