Welcome, Fr. Vincent! Fr. Vincent Tobin, O.S.B. returns to our Cathedral this week-end to speak to us about St. Meinrad Archabbey and Seminary. Most of you are aware of St. Meinrad and certainly have benefitted from the monks’ ministry through the hands of most of our associate pastors in recent years. I did not have the privilege of going to school at St. Meinrad, but I have always admired the monastery and have appreciated the wonderful service they provide our local Church and the Church universal. In addition to the many diocesan priests who were educated there, several of our parishioners have received degrees in theology there, and the diocesan diaconate program is directed from St. Meinrad. St. Meinrad is deserving of any support you can give them.
I was away for three days this week attending the National Black Catholic Conference in Indianapolis. I joined a busload of others from our diocese to travel to and from the Conference. I have participated in this national conference twice before, and I am always uplifted by the music and liturgies and educated and inspired by the various conferences and speakers. It was truly a blessed time for all participants.
While in Indianapolis, I celebrated my thirty-eighth anniversary of ordination on Friday. Wow! Reflecting on these years, the words of Psalm 116 best express my sentiments. “How shall I make a return to the lord for all the good he has done for me? The cup of salvation I will take up, and I will call upon the name of the Lord.” Thank you for the part you have played in helping me to fulfill my priestly ministry among you.
My Mother continues to struggle and is still in the hospital in Paducah. At the time of this writing, she has not made much progress. I thank you for your continued concern and prayers.
Love, Fr. John
