This week the priests of the diocese will gather with Bishop Medley at Lake Barkley for our annual convocation. We will discuss a variety of issues, but our primary focus will be preparing for the new translation of the Mass texts that we will begin to use next Advent. We will begin our preparation here in the parish in the near future. In the meantime, I hope you are reading the brief articles on this topic which we are regularly including in the bulletin. Please pray for all the diocesan clergy this week.
Congratulations to the newly selected members of the Parish Pastoral Council. Those selected last Sunday are Eddie O’Bryan, Mary Jo Yates, Ray Purk, Garry Pierce and Travis Van Bussum. Once again, I also want to thank all those who accepted nomination for this ministry in the parish and a very special word of gratitude to those whose terms have just expired. Steve Wathen, Allison Nall, Mike Baker and Mike Sullivan have served us well for the past three years.
Larry Lyon has informed me that he will retire from his role as the parish business manager in June. There is not enough space in this bulletin to list all of Larry’s accomplishments and contributions to the life of St. Stephen Cathedral during the twenty-five years that he has worked on the parish staff. We will find an appropriate way to thank him in the spring. In the meantime, pray for Larry as he prepares for this transition, and pray that God will send us the right person to join our staff as Larry departs.
Love, Fr. John
