St. Stephen Cathedral Mass
Blessed Sacrament Chapel Mass
Published on May 29th, 2015
I. Corpus Christi Devotion: The Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ is Sunday, June 7. In addition to receiving the Body and Blood of Christ at Mass, we will have the opportunity to gather at Saint Stephen Cathedral for private prayer before the Blessed Sacrament at 6:00pm, followed by a short procession around the SSC property with the Blessed Sacrament at 7:00pm. We will crown our devotion with Benediction. Immediately afterwards, there will be ice cream downstairs! I’m sure it was through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit that ice cream came into existence!
II. Walking With God: When I was a younger priest, I allowed a year to zoom by without taking time for a retreat; I promised myself I would never allow that to happen again. With only four weeks left in this fiscal year, I am taking the next five days for a retreat, a special time of prayer, reflection, and renewal away from all of you, especially Fr. Suneesh!
III. No Vacation from a Vocation! Summertime is here! It’s a wonderful time for picnics, exercise, and family fun. Some may take vacations far or near; it’s not so much where you go, as who you’re with. Don’t shortchange your spiritual needs. Take five more minutes for prayer. Do something kind for someone. Go for a walk. Read a book. Read the Scriptures. Come to a daily Mass. Make faith a priority!
IV. Vision of Music and Liturgy for the Future: When Michael Conley notified me of his desire to apply for long-term disability, I formed a committee to take a look at our present liturgy and music. What do we want to preserve? What is going well? Where do we need to improve? Where do we need to grow? All this is preliminary work for a new Director of Music and Liturgy at Saint Stephen Cathedral. Thanks to the committee members: Susan Augenstein, Cindy Bornander, John Calhoun, Judy Carrico, Matthew Constant, Christy Ellis, Lucy Kurtz, Doris Mattingly, Petra Palmer, and Joan Perry, along with Fr. Suneesh and me, under the leadership of Michael Bogdan, diocesan Director of Music and Liturgy. This committee has given its recommendations to me. On behalf of the parish, I am grateful for the time and hard work of this committee. Stay tuned!
In Joy and Hope,
