I. Lighthouse Media Kiosk, in our church vestibule, is restocked and ready for you. You will find CDs on different topics about our Catholic faith, e.g. “Seven Reasons to be Catholic,” “The Hidden Power of Forgiveness,” “The Seven Pillars of Catholic Spirituality,” “Why I Am Catholic,” “Confession,” “15 Things To Do in the midst of Suffering,” “Count Your Blessings,” etc. You are invited to take a CD, listen to it, keep it or pass it on. You are asked to give a $3 donation, a great deal, to partially cover the cost of this project, which is sponsored by our Faith Formation Committee. This is one of the projects which has been formed as a result of Pope Saint John Paul II’s New Evangelization challenge. We do not live in a vacuum! Are you being formed more by our secular world than by the teachings of your Church?
II. Diocesan Event Welcomers! Recently, after two diocesan events celebrated in our beautiful Cathedral, it dawned on me that we, as the Cathedral Church for the Diocese of Owensboro, are missing an opportunity. Instead of visitors picking up the liturgical aid from a table, wouldn’t it be more hospitable, more Church-like, if a Cathedral parishioner were standing at church doors greeting people from almost every parish in the Diocese with, “Welcome to your Cathedral!” and handing them a liturgical aid. We need friendly hosts/hostesses who could greet, welcome, and make people feel “at home” in our Mother Church! Any takers? We need you!
III. Faith Fest Owensboro! Tours of Faith Homes: Sunday, November 9, 1:30-4:00pm at St. Stephen Cathedral, Zion United Church of Christ, and Islamic Center of Owensboro; on Sunday, November 16: Mt. St. Joseph Motherhouse Chapel, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and Zion United Church of Christ. Pick up a more complete schedule of opportunities at church doors.
IV. St. Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology has a long history of service to the Diocese of Owensboro. In fact, 48 active and retired priests (including Bishop Medley), 17 permanent deacons, 4 religious and 91 lay people are alumni of St. Meinrad. For 160 years, St. Meinrad monks have served the Catholic Church through their prayer and work. Their seminary program offer students excellent spiritual and academic preparation for the priesthood. Additionally, the Lay Degree Program offers Master’s level theology courses for men and women. Retreats are also available for individuals or small groups. Learn more about St. Meinrad by visiting www.stmeinrad.org and www.saintmeinrad.edu. Please welcome Fr. Joseph Cox, OSB, to St. Stephen Cathedral on November 15/16 for a St. Meinrad Sunday!
V. Tax Site Screeners and Tax Preparers are Needed to help low to moderate working families in Green River District area. This volunteer opportunity is rewarding and helps save families an average of $150-$200 in filing fees. Tax return preparation experience is not necessary, but some computer literacy is essential.
