St. Stephen Cathedral Mass
Blessed Sacrament Chapel Mass
Published on July 25th, 2014
I. Congratulations, Deacon Dirck Curry!! It’s official! On Monday, July 21, 2014, I received, hand-delivered, Decree of Incardination of Deacon Dirck A. Curry into the Diocese of Owensboro. Deacon Dirck was ordained a permanent Deacon for the Diocese of St. Cloud, MN on December 9, 2002. The current Bishop, Most Reverend Donald Kettler, sent a letter of acknowledgement expressing his willingness to grant Deacon Dirck excardination, along with letters of recommendation. In turn, Bishop William Francis Medley, having consulted with the Priests’ Personnel Board of the Diocese of Owensboro, accepted Deacon Dirck Curry, and incardinated him into this Diocese in accord with the prescripts of Canons 265-269. For over four years, Deacon Dirck has ministered faithfully in Owensboro. We are delighted that he is now “officially” a member of the clergy for this Diocese. Congratulations to Deacon and Chona Curry!
II. Ministry of Praise Commissioning this Wednesday, July 30! To date we have 37 parishioners signed up for this new prayer ministry. This Ministry of Praise is open to the sick, the handicap, the homebound and senior citizens who can no longer be as active as they would like to be. There are no meetings, no dues! It is a spiritual ministry in which we offer all prayers, joys and sufferings to God. You will receive a letter from the parish office every other month, which asks you to include in your prayers certain intentions of the parish. If you are interested in joining this prayer ministry, please contact George or Margaret Frey (coordinators), or Fr. Jerry or Fr. Suneesh.
III. Blessed Sacrament Picnic on August 2! This Saturday, Noon-4:00pm, you have the opportunity to drop by 7th and Sycamore Streets for our annual picnic. Serving begins at Noon and goes until they run out of food! Let’s support our Catholic neighbors just a stone’s throw from St. Stephen.
IV. In The Black! We ended the fiscal year in the black, despite the fact that we had $57,000 in unexpected expenses (parking lot paving, air-conditioners for the church, church, upstairs rectory, and handicap door for church elevator). A gigantic THANK YOU to parishioners who made this happen with your generosity! No gift is too big or to small! Budget needs for the coming fiscal year, July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2015 will be challenging but doable, averaging $19,000 per week, plus $92,000 from other sources including picnic, rent, etc. Last year, we netted $21,079 from the picnic/festival; wouldn’t it be great to double that on September 20?!! A big item will be the raffles! If every family would do something, on a regular basis, we would have more money than we know what to do with, and we could be so much more generous!
V. September 20–Save The Date! Our annual picnic/festival is the third Saturday of September. This year it falls on Saturday, September 20. It will be an opportunity for many not yet involved to ‘roll up your sleeves’, clothe yourself in that St. Stephen Cathedral spirit, and help out. We need you! Please contact Deacon Dirck or call the office.
VI. Save Another Date: Thursday, September 4, will be our Dedication Day celebration, commemorating the original dedication of St. Stephen Church on September 6, 1926. This was before the church was elevated to a cathedral status in 1937. We will celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving, followed by a dinner for all! Put it on your calendar!
Joy and Hope,
