I. Youth Minister Moving: Our youth minister, Noelle Curry, will be returning to Bloomington-Normal, IL at the beginning of July. She will be close to friends and family, and will continue to serve in the pro-life movement. Deacon Curry and Chona and her dear grandma, Virginia, will be here in Owensboro, so she will visit often! Noelle has assured us that St. Stephen’s families, especially the youth, will always have her prayers, and she asks that we pray for her, too. Noelle’s last day will be June 9. In the name of our youth, and the entire parish, I thank Noelle for a job well done! Thank you for your commitment to our youth. Most of all, I thank you for how you live your faith. You are a wonderful, gentle model. You reflect Christ well!
II. Congratulations Dirck Curry, Deacon and Doctor, who, last week, was awarded the “Clinical Medical Educator of the Year” Award by the Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine (KYCOM). This award is presented to a physician, nominated by students, who have served as outstanding role models, provided excellent clinical education and demonstrated professionalism in the art and science of medicine. We are proud of this man of God, who is a wonderful asset to our parish and to our community-at-large! Deacon Dirck, with your family, we share your joy!
III. The Prodigal Son Returns: At the end of this week, Fr. Suneesh Mathew, HGN, will return to his beloved St. Stephen people for active ministry. Having spent all his money, and coming to his senses, he is crawling back from his native India and his beloved Kerala to his “ole Kentucky home”! Let us celebrate! The party has begun! Welcome back!
V. Celebrating The Gift of the Spirit! The Feast of the Resurrection is too great a mystery to be crammed into one day. Therefore, the Church in her wisdom has stretched out this Easter season for 50 days, till the high Feast of Pentecost! Someone suggested that we have a parish potluck the evening of Pentecost! And, so we are! Reserve Sunday, June 8, for this parish gathering!
Easter Joy and Hope,
