St. Stephen Cathedral Mass
Blessed Sacrament Chapel Mass
Published on January 24th, 2014
I. “Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service” is the national Catholic Schools’ Week 2014 theme, January 26-February 1. Our Catholic schools are communities, small families in their own right, but also members of a larger community of home, church, city and nation. Faith, knowledge, and service are three measures by which any Catholic school can and should be judged. We are pleased that 107 of our St. Stephen Cathedral students (almost 70%) are in our Catholic Schools. I applaud parents for your commitment, sacrifice, and active involvement in our Owensboro Catholic Schools at the four different locations. We celebrate the tremendous gift our Catholic Schools are to us!
II. Prayer List Update: I cannot tell you how important it is for our community to be praying for those who are sick, those who are facing surgery, and those recovering from serious sickness. In an effort to update our Parish List, several parishioners have been calling those on our prayer list; however, we do not have phone numbers for all. Many did not realize their names were still on our prayer list; your assistance in making it current is needed. Beginning February 1, I am asking that names be rotated off our prayer list every two months. It is true that every one of us can use and is in need of prayer, yet knowing that others are praying for at those critical times in our life, before major surgery, during hospitalization and serious illness, is important. If your name or the name of a loved one needs to be on our prayer list, do not hesitate to call. Thank you for your help and understanding!
III. Seven Deadly Sins/Seven Lively Virtues: We are in our third week of this DVD series by Fr. Robert Barron about seven sinful patterns of life with the corresponding “lively” virtue to counteract it, assisting us on the right path to ultimate happiness and healing. On Sunday, February 2, we will meet at 3:30pm and be finished by 5:00pm in order that you may enjoy the Super Bowl! Special gratitude to our Adult Faith Formation Chair, Haley Fitzgerald ([email protected] or 270-993-1111), and her husband, Matthew, for making this happen.
Anointing of the Sick: Reserve Wednesday, February 11, for the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick at the 12:05pm Mass. This Feast of our Lady of Lourdes is also the annual World Day of Prayer for the sick. Anyone interested in helping to plan a light lunch in the Fr. John Vaughan Community Center after this Anointing Mass?
In Joy and Hope, Fr. Jerry
