Dear Parishioners,

Today is the Mount St. Joseph picnic.  Unfortunately, I will miss it for the first time in many years.  I hope many of you will go to the Mount to support the sisters and to enjoy the many friends gathered there.  But don’t spend all your money, because our picnic is next Saturday, as you know.

I am eager to get home and see the progress that has been made in Church.  I trust that much more of the marble has been installed, and I suspect that the electrical work is all but completed.  At this point, I have not heard from our friends in Spain about when they plan to ship our materials, but I do anticipate that it will be this month—probably toward the end of September.  Our liturgy planning committee has completed their work, and the Parish Pastoral Council is working hard to plan the reception.

It is early spring in New Zealand.  As you may know, New Zealand is comprised of two islands.  I have spent the past week visiting the South Island.  I flew into Christchurch, the second largest city in NZ.  You may recall that this area was severely damaged by an earthquake in February 2011.  The city is still recovering from that horrible event.  I also visited Dunedin City, Queenstown, Milford Sound and the beautiful Franz Joseph Glacier.  I am now in Auckland (North Island-the largest city in the country) where my meeting will take place this week.  I will be home on Friday.

Love, Fr. John
