St. Stephen Cathedral Mass
Blessed Sacrament Chapel Mass
Published on November 25th, 2011
Happy New Year! Today we begin the beautiful season of Advent in preparation for the celebration of the birth of Jesus in four weeks. This new liturgical year brings some significant changes to us as we begin using the new translation of the Roman Missal. As I stated last week, we have worked diligently to prepare ourselves for this moment. I suspect it will feel a bit awkward for awhile, and we will undoubtedly make some mistakes, but if we sincerely put ourselves into it, our liturgy will be a prayerful experience and will truly give glory and praise to God. Let us strive to listen carefully to the words we say, so that we can pray them with comprehension and faith.
Of course, our new liturgical language is not the only significant change happening to us at this time. Today (Sunday) marks the last Mass we will celebrate in our Church until the renovation is completed sometime next fall. Beginning Monday, our daily Masses will be at Blessed Sacrament and our Sunday Masses will be in the basement of the Catholic Pastoral Center next door to our parish office. I thank you for your patience and cooperation as we accustom ourselves to this new temporary environment.
A number of you have requested to purchase pews. We are asking $100 for each. If there are others of you who would like one, please let us know immediately. We have been trying to find a church that might like to buy the remainder. We have a couple of inquiries, but as I write this, no definite purchase. Someone has also suggested that we might cut some of them into crosses to be offered as a fundraiser. Anyone willing to do this?
Have a blessed Advent.
Love, Fr. John
