St. Stephen Cathedral Mass
Blessed Sacrament Chapel Mass
Published on May 21st, 2011
Today we are having the reception to honor and thank Larry Lyon for his twenty-six years of service to our parish. As I outlined in the most recent Parishioner, Larry has been instrumental in so many activities and initiatives during his more-than-a-quarter of a century on our parish staff. I hope that many of you will be able to gather with us after the eleven o’clock Mass to express our gratitude to Larry – and to enjoy good food and the company of one another, as well.
I cannot tell you how many times in the past year I have been asked “when are we going to begin the work in the Cathedral?” I am happy to tell you that we are beginning on Monday. We are not quite ready to begin the major work, but Integrated Technologies Group from Newburgh will begin the installation of our new sound system this week. This is the first step in our Restoration and Renewal, and I sincerely hope that you will notice an improvement. We will not have amplification for the weekday Masses this week, but the system is supposed to be operational by next week-end.
Last week, the Finance Committee and the Parish Council approved the budget for the coming fiscal year (July 1- June 30). You will be given the complete details in our annual financial report, but for now I will tell you that we are projecting a balanced budget. If this is to happen, it is important that each of us meet our pledge. I know that some people do not like to make such a commitment or to use envelopes, often saying something like “It is no one’s business what I give.” In one sense, that is correct; but if everyone acted in such manner it would be impossible for us to plan or to be good stewards with the resources which God has given to each of us and that we in turn share with the parish. So again, I entreat you, please make a stewardship pledge (time, talent and treasure) and do your best to fulfill it. Many thanks!
Love, Fr. John
